Darkest minds

When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.
Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.
When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.
When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

The book contains an interesting plot and it carries great potential, however the main character, our heroine was so stressful at time that I jus wanted to grab her and give her a good shake. Dang from the beginning I got the feeling of how naive she was a stupid. Yes great move in telling the controller that she was Green and not a Orange might be one of the only smart things she did in the whole. After that it all starts to go down hill form their, she instantly beginning to ignore herders and pushes them to the back of her mind, yet we can all guess how that is going to turn out. One of the things that stressed me out the most was how submissive she was and she let others do the thinking for her. And yet out of no where they get attack and with a hit on her head that could be a serious concussion she is able to disable an experience bounty hunter and with her powers that she fears above all else, she erases the memories of them from said bounty hunters mind.
Ruby annoyed the life out of me and I barely got through a chapter without rolling ,e eyes and screaming her name.
The only shocker was Clancy I liked him from the beginning and it was a little of a shock that he turned put being just as bad as his dad or worse. Though I may be a little bias, he was the only character that told Ruby everything that I've been thinking well him and Sam. So that instantly put him on my good side.
While I am not saying that Ruby should instantly trust everyone she meets because that is totally idiotic and suicidal she should learn to use people and turn their own mind games back to them in her favor.
Unfortunately we finally get a break in the end of the book, to save Liam life she agrees to stay with the League and the girl decides to set him free by erasing his memories of her. Noble but at the same time it hits the core of selfishness she didn't give him a choice and it is the first time she does something for heels and it makes her character more believable no human is that selfless. Throughout the book and I bet you the author thought it a good idea to add a moral lesson in the book. Ruby all about I'm staying with them to protect them, I'm learning to use my powers to protect my friends all I want is to protect them. But how in the end can she protect them without some self preservation and self confidence in what she is and doing.
Though I imagine that it is part of her character building though there isn't much of that as the books progress.
It show some hope for the next installment, the ending is the only thing giving hope in the second book. It is the last chance this series has to make a good impression on me!!!!
